A typical ocular exam in pets is a comprehensive evaluation of the eyes and visual system to assess vision and detect disease. It begins with visual function testing—observing navigation, tracking, and reflexes—followed by examination of the eyelids, conjunctiva, cornea, and tear production. Intraocular pressure is measured to screen for glaucoma or inflammation, and specialized instruments such as a slit lamp and ophthalmoscope are used to evaluate internal eye structures, including the lens, retina, and optic nerve.
Additional diagnostics may be performed if abnormalities are detected.
